Where is the Attorney General Located?

Attorney generals serve as guardians for public interest by upholding laws designed to safeguard consumers, promote community safety and preserve the environment. Furthermore, they serve as legal advice for state departments, boards and agencies.

Civil enforcement actions may also be taken against businesses and individuals who violate state consumer, environmental, health care, labor or financial laws.

District of Columbia

The United States Attorney for the District of Columbia stands out among federal prosecutors as an unusual entity, handling both federal crimes as well as local civil litigation and minor infractions, similar to city attorneys. The Deputy Attorney General for PSD oversees a division encompassing Juvenile Specialty Courts (covering cases such as truancy and need of supervision issues), Victim Advocacy and Restorative Services Unit and criminal justice reform initiatives – among many others.

Brian has dedicated his legal career to using law as a force for good. Outside the office, he offers his time, expertise, and leadership to organizations dedicated to strengthening local justice systems; mentoring DC public school students; reducing HIV/AIDS related impacts; as well as serving his synagogue both as officer and trustee. Brian strives to become one of the country’s premier public law offices.

California

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California serves seven counties – Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara and Ventura – prosecuting crimes and representing federal interests in any litigation that arises within its borders.

The office of the Attorney General can be found in any state capitol and is staffed with Deputy Attorney Generals (DAGs), overseen by Supervising Deputy Attorney Generals. Elected through a statewide election, four-year terms are served by each Attorney General elected into office.

Each regional attorney general office addresses important social and economic justice issues, including consumer and civil rights, charitable donations, workers’ compensation and more. Therefore, it’s crucial for any license defense lawyer to be familiar with all of these offices as well as specific laws and regulations of each licensed profession; at Ray & Bishop PLC we regularly work with Deputy Attorney Generals.

New York

The Attorney General serves essential defensive, regulatory and affirmative justice functions throughout the state. Their regional offices investigate and prosecute civil matters; represent state agencies and employees in litigation; issue legal opinions and issue legal opinions as part of their mandate.

Letitia “Tish” James is New York’s 67th attorney general and first woman of color to hold this office. She has campaigned against predatory lenders, provided support to victims of sexual assault, and led investigations into NYPD stop-and-frisk policy.

Cornell Law students based out of Syracuse comprise part of Cornell Law’s Internet Bureau, which enforces laws related to online transactions and consumer protection, working closely with businesses to promote responsible cyberspace practices.

Students participating in this clinic assist attorneys in defending claims, complaints and petitions filed against New York state agencies and employees in both state and federal courts. Under their attorney’s supervision, they draft pleadings as well as attend trials, hearings and court arguments.

Washington D.C.

Assuming there is one, government hierarchies generally follow an orderly chain: city, county, state and federal agencies. But when dealing with the District of Columbia it becomes a little more intricate: “it is neither city nor county nor state,” according to Chris Tonjes of Washington DC Office of Attorney General (OAG), which prosecutes crime while providing legal advice and protecting its 750,000 residents’ interests.

The OAG hosts the Capital Forum each year to bring attorneys general from around the country together to meet federal officials and discuss policy issues. You can contact OAG using this form; your email will then be forwarded directly to an OAG component for processing. Visit Component Contact Information page for contact info related to any particular department or team at OAG. We strive to utilize technology and best practices in order to advance our mission!
